Master of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MAIML)

MAIML is a two-semester professional program (fall and spring) tailored for STEM graduates targeting high-impact industry roles. A Silicon Valley immersion further prepares students to become machine learning (ML) engineers and artificial intelligence (AI) researchers.

Students will develop mastery of the computational and statistical foundations of ML and AI to create, improve, understand and responsibly deploy and apply state-of-the-art ML and AI systems.

Program Summary

At the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS), students are embedded in a continuously evolving environment with breakthroughs from the world’s leading AI researchers. Students learn directly from the minds pushing the boundaries of this fast-moving technology.

The MAIML program, offered by CDSS, is a full-time, in-person program designed and taught by UC Berkeley’s world-renowned Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) and Statistics faculty. By combining academic rigor with industry collaboration and public interest applications, our faculty actively shape the future of the field.

Leveraging Berkeley’s proximity to Silicon Valley, its culture of open innovation, and deep ties to leading tech companies, the MAIML program offers unmatched credibility and relevance. Through exclusive on-campus events, bespoke programming, and a dedicated Silicon Valley immersion experience between semesters, students directly engage with industry leaders and professionals.

The rigorous curriculum spans core coursework in data science, machine learning, probability, statistical inference, and AI ethics. Students can customize their degree with specialized electives such as causal inference, natural language processing, optimization, deep neural networks, and reinforcement learning. To graduate, candidates must complete all required coursework and pass a comprehensive examination.
