UC Berkeley’s College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) welcomed 17 new faculty in statistics, electrical engineering and computer sciences, and computational precision health to its community this year.
“We are thrilled to have recruited such an outstanding cohort of faculty,” said Sandrine Dudoit, executive associate dean at CDSS. “Their research and teaching activities span the foundations of data science in computing, electrical engineering and statistics, as well as their applications to address timely questions in areas that include neuroscience, policy and public health. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues to the college.”
Faculty with primary appointments in Berkeley’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) – a department shared between CDSS and the College of Engineering – include:
- Serina Chang, assistant professor with a joint appointment in the UCSF UC Berkeley Computational Precision Health program
- Lijie Chen, assistant professor
- Zaijun Chen, assistant professor
- Alex Dimakis, professor
- Rishabh Iyer, assistant professor
- Sagar Karandikar, assistant professor
- Giuseppe Loianno, associate professor
- Sewon Min, assistant professor
- Aditya Muppala, assistant professor
- Kay Ousterhout, assistant teaching professor
- Amy Pavel, assistant professor
- Emma Pierson, assistant professor
- Manuel Sabin, assistant teaching professor
- Mengjie Yu, assistant professor
Faculty with primary appointments in Berkeley’s Department of Statistics include:
- Alex Huth, assistant professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Neuroscience
- Jason Lee, associate professor with a joint appointment in EECS
Liberty Hamilton joined Berkeley with a primary appointment as assistant professor in Berkeley’s Department of Neuroscience with additional appointments in Berkeley’s Department of Statistics and UCSF’s Department of Neurological Surgery.
Additionally, CDSS Dean Jennifer Chayes served as the lead dean for a faculty cluster search on AI, inequality and society. The first faculty hire in that search, Jeffrey Lockhart, recently joined Berkeley as an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology. Lockhart is also affiliated with the Berkeley Institute for Data Science, which is part of CDSS. Four other faculty are expected to be appointed in the cluster’s other participating Berkeley units: the EECS department, the School of Information, the School of Law, and the Department of Statistics.
