UC Berkeley College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) welcomed six new faculty in statistics and in electrical engineering and computer sciences to its community this year.
“We are proud to bring such a brilliant group of scholars to Berkeley,” said Sandrine Dudoit, executive associate dean at CDSS. “Their research combines deep expertise and innovative approaches in computing, electrical engineering and statistics to address challenges related to AI as well as interdisciplinary questions in the natural sciences and engineering. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues to the college and our new home at the Barbara and Gerson Bakar Gateway.”
Faculty with primary appointments in Berkeley’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) – a department shared between CDSS and the College of Engineering – include:
- Behcet Açıkmeşe, Chancellor’s Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering
- YoungJu Jo, assistant professor
- Asir Khan, assistant professor
- Kater Murch, professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Physics
Faculty with appointments in Berkeley’s Department of Statistics include:
- Jingfeng Wu, assistant professor
- Kevin Yang, assistant professor with a primary appointment in the Department of Mathematics
Additionally, CDSS Dean Jennifer Chayes served as the lead dean for a faculty cluster search in AI, inequality and society. The second faculty hire in that search, Kathryne Metcalf, recently joined Berkeley as an assistant professor in the School of Information, following the recruitment last year of Jeffrey Lockhart as assistant professor in the Department of Sociology. Three additional faculty are expected to join in the School of Law and the EECS and Statistics departments.
