UC Berkeley’s undergraduate data science program retained its No. 1 spot in the 2027 U.S. News and World Report rankings released today.
The university also ranked No. 4 in computer science at the undergraduate level, the highest ranking for computer science academic programs at a public institution. Berkeley was named the top public university in the rankings and recognized for its excellence in undergraduate programs across campus.
The data science major, run by the Data Science Undergraduate Studies program within the college, was established in 2018. Some Berkeley-developed data science courses are shared with other colleges and universities in California and beyond as part of efforts to expand access to excellent and equitable data science education.
CDSS and the College of Engineering share the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and house undergraduate computer science programs leading to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, respectively.
CDSS also houses Berkeley's statistics major. U.S. News does not rank undergraduate statistics programs.
