The Nicholas C. Petris Center is a health economics research center that focuses on empirical research on important health policy topics. Our mission is to guide public policy by creating the data and conducting the research needed to understand today’s complex healthcare market.
The Petris Center conducted a feasibility study on California affiliations from 2011-2020 and their impact. This pilot test investigated the ten largest hospital systems in the state. Based on the results of this pilot, we intend to study hospital affiliations in California and estimate their on prices and quality. With the help of the Discovery team and utilizing web searches as a primary method, we aim to discover trends, characteristics, key arguments, and language of affiliations. We will create a dataset with the number and types of affiliations in California hospitals over the last decade and estimate its impact on healthcare price and quality in California.
