The International Business Machines Corporation is an American multinational technology corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York, with operations in over 171 countries.
Mangrove forests are critical for mitigating many of the effects of climate change on coastal areas, such as reducing the impact of storms and carbon sequestration [1]. However, the total area of mangrove forests has declined significantly, and is predicted to decline further due to a combination of human activities and climate change [1,2]. In Fall 2022, we started looking at the role of precipitation fluctuations on mangrove area and the relationship between causes of loss and what the land converts to when the forests are lost.
The goal of the next phase of this project is to build on this foundation to look at sea level rise and other climate related factors.
