2019 National Workshop on Data Science Education
Time: Due to Public Health Concerns - the SIGCSE 2020 Conference was cancelled
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon
Update: March 12, 2020: We had planned to share UC Berkeley's pioneering approach to data science education at the Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) 2020 Convention this March. We plan to make a series of videos that would have been our Pre-Symposium and Workshop Talks
Highlights
Foundations of Data Science (Data 8): Our entry-level course designed for students from any major. Learn how to create a curriculum built on computational thinking with Python that allows students from all backgrounds to use data-driven methods to think critically about the world, draw conclusions from data, and effectively communicate results. Students learn inferential thinking by resampling, prediction, and machine learning.
Data Science Modules: Approaches for infusing data science in lectures, labs, assignments, and student projects in any domain area.
Human Contexts and Ethics : Curriculum and tools developed and taught by humanities and social science faculty that equip students to investigate the human and social structures and practices that shape and are shaped by data science.
Technology Infrastructure: The technology underlying the pedagogy platform (JupyterHub, Kubernetes) and how to replicate it.
