Abstract:
Air travel is mired in an antiquated hub-and-spoke system that has hampered the growth of regional air travel. Each week, a new community is losing their ability to move people and packages through their local airport. By removing the pilot from the cockpit and allowing a remote operator to ensure safety of flight, a new era of aviation is possible.
A new era where local communities can receive dependable, efficient, and accessible transportation no matter where they live. This new era will once again realize the considerable regional economic growth that can come from the tens of thousands of existing local airports around the world.
Regional Air Mobility will fundamentally revolutionize regional travel and the Superpilot technology that we are developing at Xwing will be a key enabler in transforming the way we fly packages today and people tomorrow.
Bio: Dr. Maxime Gariel is the Chief Technology Officer at Xwing, an aviation company on a mission to radically improve human mobility through the use of fully autonomous airplanes. Maxime is a pilot whose lifelong dream is to make airplanes fly themselves. His work on autonomous flight systems includes fixed-wing to rotary-wing aircraft ranging from small to large aircraft. Prior to Xwing, Maxime was the Principal GNC (Guidance, Navigation & Control) Engineer at Rockwell Collins where he built autonomous aircraft systems like the AgustaWestland SW4 Solo autonomous helicopter. Maxime is a former MIT Postdoctoral Researcher of aerospace systems, and holds a PhD and Masters of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech
