The 2018 Physics Department Magazine, Physics @ Berkeley features Berkeley’s thriving data science ecosystem. The article "Dealing with Data, Berkeley Leads the Way in Data Science Education" includes perspectives from Division of Data Sciences leaders David Culler and Cathryn Carson.
"Research universities across the nation are grappling with how best to address the emergence of data science," Interim Dean Culler told the magazine. "We're working to make it possible for students to build meaningful knowledge in data science techniques and implications and to engage early on in research discovery.”
The article also explores new courses that equip physics students to work with data, including an introductory physics course that’s taken in parallel with Data 8. “It’s one of these beautiful cross-walks we’re developing,” Professor Carson said.
