Teaching and research, specializing in Irish literature, twentieth century; in Irish Studies is not a teaching program but a center for exchange on culture, politics, and technology.
This project will use digital humanities methods to explore Irish drama from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries. Working through an assembled corpus of plays, we will consider individual works in their own right and against their contemporaries through computational analyses of formal, lexical, and stylistic features: sentence length, speech length, scene length, number of characters, frequency of words and groups of words in individual plays, and syntactical complexity. Alongside this analysis, the project will also design a text generator which will use the corpus as a learning text.
