What do the Bay Area's changing rainfall patterns mean for rainwater catchment?

I'm interested in having data science students evaluate the weather data from around the 9-county Bay Area region and possibly also in the LA, Sacramento, and San Diego regions (using the UCANR weather station dataset) to understand 1. if there are longer periods without rain during the wet season in California cities in this decade compared to previous decades, 2.) if there are more "weird" late or early season rain storms outside of the wettest months in this decade compared to previous decades. This analysis would be used to inform a paper about rainwater capture in urban areas of California.
