The majority of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding has been allocated to
(Non-Governmental Organizations ) NGOs in highly visible multinational organizations in urban
areas, while the majority of organizations are community-driven in rural and remote areas yet
receive nowhere near the same amount of funding.
Starting 2014, all Indian corporations satisfying a profit threshold were mandated to allocate a
minimum of 2% of their profits toward activities that benefit the public good through CSR. By
bringing NGOs and companies together, it was anticipated that CSR funds would bridge the gap
in services left by dwindling government programs and provide the NGOs sector with
much-needed support.
This semester, we at Daanmatch sought to answer the following questions: How can we close
the gap between NGOs and corporates and connect them more efficiently? How can we build a
knowledge graph of non-governmental organizations? How can we cluster NGOs that are
similar to make the process of matching NGOs with corporates more efficient?
