Student Services Scholarships
The College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) offers limited scholarship funding to support current CDSS undergraduate students in their academic, professional and personal success.
See below for eligibility requirements, application materials and how to apply.
Types of Funding
- Research funding
- Travel and conference funding
- Emergency funding
Funding is available in three categories: (1) research funding for equipment or other necessary research-related costs when a student's primary advisor does not have sufficient funding, (2) travel and conference funding for students who do not have a faculty advisor or whose advisor lacks sufficient funds to support conference attendance, and (3) emergency funding to assist students facing unexpected financial hardships.
Award Overview
A committee, made up of CDSS staff and faculty, evaluates applications and makes decisions within one to four weeks of submission.
Each award will vary in amount, and funding decisions may differ from the amount requested. Funding is limited and not guaranteed.
Awards are issued to students as a stipend through UC Berkeley Financial Aid. Students are encouraged to consult with a Financial Aid officer to understand how receiving this funding may impact their existing financial aid package, as additional funding may result in adjustments to aid. In cases where a student’s financial aid status prevents stipend disbursement, funding may be provided through reimbursement.
The award is typically up to $750, but in exceptional cases, the committee may choose to make larger awards.
Students are required to submit receipts or documentation to verify use of funds.
- Research funding: Funds are disbursed upon completion of the research project or at the end of the semester.
- Travel and conference funding: Funds are disbursed after completion of travel or at the end of the semester.
- Emergency funding: Funds are typically disbursed at the time of approval to address immediate need.
