This role develops and oversees the full range of functional areas to support the academic success and programmatic experiences of CDSS undergraduate and graduate students. The incumbent directs the student services strategy, goals, and objectives, sets the vision and mission for CDSS student engagement, and aligns the Student Services strategic plan with the college and campus strategic plans, in consultation with the Associate Dean for Students. The incumbent is responsible for new initiatives, building, expanding, evaluating, and fortifying a broad portfolio of programs to meet student learning needs. This individual assesses complex situations, identifies opportunities, and directs subordinates to address challenges.

This role conducts in-depth reviews of academic personnel cases, including faculty appointments, promotions, and retentions, and provides expert recommendations to CDSS leadership. It also oversees leave requests, recall appointments, and policy compliance. As a policy expert, the incumbent advises leadership, trains staff, develops processes, and recommends improvements. Strong analytical, writing, and strategic planning skills are essential.

This position is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and preparing academic personnel cases, with a focus on Senate and non-Senate faculty appointments, promotions, and retention. The incumbent provides recommendations to the CDSS director of academic and staff human resources, drafts dean’s letters, and ensures compliance with relevant policies. They also advise leadership, train staff on academic personnel processes, and develop procedures to improve efficiency. Additionally, they stay informed on policy changes, handle special projects, and engage in professional development.
