The application and admissions process for the Master of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MAIML) program is holistic and takes into account each element of the application process.
Transcripts: Applicants are required to upload scans of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate programs attended, or are currently attending. Degrees must have been completed at an accredited institution before the start of the program and conferred by October 1.
Prerequisites: Proficiency in object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, linear algebra, statistics, probability, software engineering, and multivariate calculus, as demonstrated through successfully completed coursework or relevant work experience. Applicants may describe how they meet the prerequisites in their Statement of Purpose or Personal History Statement, but not both.
Essays: Applicants must submit a Statement of Purpose and Personal History Statement.
Resume: Applicants must submit a professional resume as part of their application. The resume should include educational background, work experience, and relevant skills. The resume length must not exceed two pages.
GRE Score: The submission of GRE scores is optional for applicants, but will be recognized as one possible way to demonstrate quantitative ability for admission to the program.
Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation are required. Letters should come from individuals who are familiar with the applicant’s training, skills, and experiences. Recommendation letters should be written by an individual in a position to evaluate the applicant either professionally or academically (e.g., a supervisor, project leader, or instructor). At least one letter should come from an academic reference. It is also recommended that at least one letter come from a professional reference for applicants with work experience. Recommendations from friends or family members will not be accepted.
English Language Proficiency: The UC Berkeley Graduate Division requires that all applicants who received their degrees from countries in which the official language is not English submit official evidence of English Language Proficiency, regardless of the school's language of instruction. Application Fee: If you are a U.S. citizen or current permanent resident, the non-refundable application fee is $135; for all others, the fee is $155. Some applicants may be eligible for a fee waiver.
