• Curricular depth: MAIML is the only UC Berkeley master’s program that provides students with in-depth theoretical and practical instruction to develop technical mastery in the computational and statistical foundations of machine learning and artificial intelligence in order to create, improve, understand and responsibly deploy and apply state-of-the-art ML and AI systems.
• Silicon Valley immersion: Prior to the start of the spring semester, students will participate in a signature two-day Silicon Valley immersion program designed to bridge academic learning with real-world application. This immersive experience will include visits to leading technology corporations, startups and top venture capital firms to explore how artificial intelligence and machine learning are shaping products, business models and strategy.
• Responsible AI seminar: Students will explore real-world applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning through a series of in-depth case studies drawn from diverse domains. Cases presented will include ethical or philosophical considerations and topics will span transparency, fairness, equity, privacy, safety, security and accountability.
• Career development: A dedicated course includes training in communication skills, interview preparation, networking and job searching strategies, as well as workshops with industry professionals to learn how new technologies are being applied in industry.

No. Students are responsible for finding their own housing. The campus has a dedicated housing office to assist both single students and those with families in locating suitable housing arrangements.

Yes. International students graduating from STEM-designated programs may apply for a 24-month extension to their post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT), providing up to 36 months of temporary employment in the U.S.
