We are very excited to share with you the following Data Science BA Commencement details:

The Spring 2023 Data Science BA Commencement Ceremony 

will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023

at the Hearst Greek Theatre

at 7:00pm Pacific Daylight Time

This ceremony honors students graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Data Science in Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Summer 2023 or Fall 2023.

Graduates should plan to arrive by 6:00pm to line up. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00pm.

Doors will also open for guests at 6:00pm.

How to Participate

Registration

Data Science majors who have (or will be) completing all coursework with an expected graduation term (EGT) of Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 will be invited to participate in the Data Science BA Commencement ceremony. Unfortunately, we cannot include Data Science minors in the ceremony.

Registration information was emailed to all eligible students from Marching Order in mid-March. If you did not receive an invitation to register, please contact ds-advising@berkeley.edu 

The deadline to register was April 15, 2023.

You must register by the deadline in order to participate in the Data Science Commencement ceremony. You must bring your printed GradPass to the Commencement ceremony as your ticket for entry.

Guest Information

Tickets: We will provide 2 free/complimentary tickets for each registered graduate. Tickets are available for pick-up from 130 Warren Hall during RRR Week and Finals Week. Graduates should have received an email with more detailed information (also posted on Ed here).

Up to 10 additional commencement tickets will be available for purchase for $5 each starting April 25 online via the tickets.berkeley.edu website, over the phone at 510-642-9988, and at the Ticket Office at Zellerbach Hall (Tues-Fri, 12 pm-5:30 pm; Sat-Sun, 1 pm-5 pm). Any tickets purchased online, by phone, or in person will be delivered by email only. Tickets will not be available for pickup at the Ticket Office or mailed. Your MarchingOrder Grad Pass is your ticket for the event. 

Please note that every person entering the venue, regardless of age, is required to have a ticket by Cal Performances. Children of all ages (including infants) must have a ticket to enter.

FAQs

Graduation regalia and other accessories can be purchased from the Cal Student Store.

Students in the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) can also check with them about their Graduation Gown Lending Project.

Plan to arrive at the Hearst Greek Theatre NO LATER THAN 6:00PM. Please plan appropriate time for parking and walking to the venue. You should be in the Theatre at 6:00pm to begin lining up with your classmates.

GradImages will be photographing the ceremony.

In the week following the ceremony, proof order forms will be mailed to all graduates for viewing. You will also be able to view their proofs and place orders by visiting the GradImageswebsite.

Students in the Data Science Honors Program will be individually contacted about receiving an honors cord to wear during the ceremony.

Diplomas are mailed by the Registrar's Office approximately four months after the end of a student’s graduating term. More information on diplomas, graduation verification, etc. can be found on the College of Letters & Science website here and the Office of the Registrar website here.

If you require an accommodation for effective communication (ASL interpreting/CART captioning, alternative media formats, etc.) or information about campus mobility access features in order to fully participate in this event, you will be able to submit this request in Marching Order when you register for the ceremony.

You can also contact Marjorie Ensor at ensor@berkeley.edu with as much advance notice as possible and at least 10 business days in advance of the event.

Graduates who are participating in the ceremony and wearing regalia do not need a ticket. Everyone else entering the Greek Theatre needs a ticket, regardless of age (including children and infants).

For the comfort and safety of everyone, please do not bring in the following items: strollers, large backpacks, large blankets, structured stadium chairs, tobacco products, alcohol, cans, bottles, ice chests, picnic baskets, lawn furniture, weapons of any kind, umbrellas, pets, hula hoops, musical instruments, laser pointers, bicycles, and skateboards.
